New Stornoway Ferry

It has recently been announced that the new Stornoway ferry, MV Loch Seaforth, currently under constuction in a German shipyard will take over the Stornoway - Ullapool ferry route on 8th September 2014. The new ship is larger than the MV Isle of Lewis, which it will replace, with a capacity for 140 cars compared with the 120 that the MV Isle of Lewis can accommodate. Initially, the MV Loch Seaforth will follow the existing winter timetable but it is to be hoped that there will be extra sailings in the summer of 2015. That timetable is currently the subject of considerable debate involving the operators, Calmac, Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, politicians, the Ferry Users Group and the Outer Hebrides Tourism Industry Association (OHTIA). Details of existing sailings on all their routes can be obtained on the Calmac website
