Of course, we have known it all along, but now it’s official! According to TripAdvisor, Lewis and Harris is Europe’s top island and – wait for it – number five in the whole world, behind exotic locations in Belize, Turks and Caicos, French Polynesia and Florida. Looking at the list of the world’s top ten islands, Lewis and Harris is the only one that doesn’t enjoy wall-to-wall sunshine. With a more favourable climate, perhaps we could have seen off all challengers. Still, they say that nobody comes to the Western Isles for the weather.
This recognition has to be seen as a massive boost to tourism in the Outer Hebrides as it will, hopefully, encourage more people to visit our wonderful islands. In fact, the Scottish islands have featured prominently in the TripAdvisor lists, with the Orkney Islands placed fourth and the Isle of Mull ninth, in Europe. These three islands are joined in the UK list by Skye, Arran and Islay, who placed fifth, sixth and eighth respectively. All-in-all, a much-deserved acknowledgement of the attractions of the Scottish islands, in general, and Lewis and Harris, in particular.
At Cabuzana Bed and Breakfast, we go the extra mile to create an enjoyable and memorable experience for visitors to the Ness area of Lewis, thereby doing our bit to ensure that Lewis and Harris continue to feature at the top of TripAdvisor’s list in future years.
