The gala day and show season is now well and truly under way in the Western Isles, in general, and Lewis in particular. Last Saturday saw the Ness Gala Day take place at the Ness FC ground on Fivepenny Machair and, despite mixed weather, it still turned out to be a great success. Today the focus turns to Uig, with their Gala Day kicking off at 1pm at Reef Machair. There are lots of things to see and do, for all the family but the one that really captures the imagination is the sheep racing - how do you get a number of sheep to run in the same direction? If you witness this interesting spectacle, please post a blog to give us your verdict. An hour and a half before the gates open, there is a very strong south-south-westerly wind blowing but, hopefully, it will abate in the afternoon and not affect the boat trips or cause the barbeque to catch fire. |
