The news gets better and better for fans of the Hebridean Celtic Festival as more and more exciting acts are added to the programme. The latest is the legendary Van Morrison, returning to the scene of his memorable performance at HebCelt, in 2005. With a career spanning half a century, the Belfast-born veteran is a true giant on the global stage and tickets for his headlining act, at the Main Arena, on the Thursday night will be in huge demand.
On the Friday, it is the turn of the ever-popular Battlefield Band, whose line-up includes Stornoway's own Alasdair White and Ewen Henderson, a member of the well-known musical Henderson family from Lochaber. Amongst the other acts appearing on the Friday will be the much-acclaimed Anglo-Scottish trio Lau, who have recently won the Best Group category at the Radio Two Folk Awards for the fourth time in six years.
Saturday sees the return to HebCelt of another veteran of the music scene in Dougie MacLean, who performed at the very first Hebridean Celtic Festival, 17 years ago. He was recently precented with a Lifetime Achievement Award, for his contribution to songwriting, at the Radio Two Folk Awards and, next year, he will be celebrating 40 years as a professional musician. At this year's event, he will be performing with a new nine-piece band, The MacLean Projet. Among the other acts appearing on the Saturday will be The Red Hot Chilli Pipers and Scottish singer-songwriter, Karine Polwart who was nominated in three categories at the recent Radio Two Folk Awards.
This year's Hebridean Celtic Festival caters for all tastes and tickets are being snapped up. As accommodation will, as usual, be at a premium during the event, early booking is strongly recommended. At present there are still some vacancies at Cabuzana Bed and Breakfast but do not leave it too late!
